Instrument

Main Instrument
The NSLLP survey questionnaire was designed specifically for this study; it is the product of two years of review and pilot testing. Its validity and reliability have been tested extensively, and it is updated and further refined for each data collection.

The instrument comprises a core of approximately 60 standard measures, and is grounded in the I-E-O (Inputs-Environments-Outcomes) model of student development (Astin, 2001).

In addition to these core constructs, NSLLP allows participating institutions to integrate up to 10 customized, program-specific questions into the core survey. These optional questions may complement the data collected by the baseline questions, gleaning additional information about social and academic climate on your campus.

NSLLP’s theoretically grounded questionnaire is matched by its methodologically rigorous implementation. It uses skip patterns and logic to minimize respondent burden by eliminating superfluous questions. As a result, the average respondent will take to 20-30 minutes to complete the survey.

LLPS
The LLPS is a parallel study that collects information about your LLPs’ policies, procedures, and offerings. Your responses will be cross-analyzed with student data to assess which LLP characteristics correspond to the most favorable student outcomes. The LLPS is essential to generating the best practices guidelines for LLPs. It is generally completed while during the administration of the main study.
